Although he had been a prolific scorer at LSU, the tall, thin forward was deemed too slight at 200 pounds to survive the pounding of an NBA season. However, the scouts failed to factor in Pettit's willingness to work harder than anyone else on the court in order to succeed. And succeed he did. After 11 years with the Milwaukee and St. Louis Hawks, he retired having become the first player in the league to top 20,000 points. Elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1971. Top 50 All-Time player. On the back inside tail is the "Rawlings" manufacturers size 48 tag. Adjacent are two additional tags with the wash instructions and "9 PETTIT." Across the front is "HAWKS." On the front and back is the player number "9." All lettering and numbering is done in white on blue tackle twill. The jersey is autographed on front in black marker and rates a 9. On the rear inner waistband of the shorts is the "Rawlings" manufacturers size 38 tag. Adjacent are two additional tags with the wash instructions and an embroidered strip tag with "9." The shorts are autographed on front in black marker and rate a 9. The uniform shows good game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The autograph is accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
