Description
This is a framed Roberto Clemente Collector Series Limited Edition Number 840 of 2,000. It was issued ONLY at the Pittsburgh Post Office. It is registered at the U.S. Post Office. With the Framed set comes the signed Certificate of Authenticity. There is a set of 4 covers. Each cover is stamped in 1994 and is matted. In the center is a brass plaque which reads Roberto Clemente Collector Series No. 831 of 2,000. This is truly a once in a lifetime find. The Pittsburgh Post Office put out just 2,000 of these in 1994. Each cover is different but is dedicated to Roberto Clemente. The first cover has 3 three stamps -- Roberto Clemente - 20 cents; a 3 cent 1939 centennial of baseball and a 6 cent 1969 professional baseball. In the left corner is Roberto and in the right corner is a short dedication - He played for the love of the game ... The postage is stamped with two baseballs dated July 8, 1994. The second cover is stamped with a baseball player (I assume is Clemente) and is dedicated to Forbes Field. In the left corner is a Pirates emblem and a sketch of Forbes Field. In the right bottom is a dedication of Forbes Field - Home of the Pittsburgh Pirates (No longer in existence) ... The third cover has a picture of Clemente with three children and a short dedication talking about his achievements and election into the Hall of Fame. And finally, the fourth envelope has a sketch of Clemente in the left lower corner and is stamped "Three Rivers Station, Pittsburgh, PA. Opening Day, April 8, 1994. The bottom right has a paragraph talking about batting avg., etc. of Clemente. This framed set comes with a certificate of authenticity and is signed by the Postmaster and District Manager of Customer Service and Sales. What makes this especially unique is that the postmaster said that this service is not longer being done in Pittsburgh. The U.S. Post Office took over all rights. Nicely framed for hanging. Professional packing and shipping to your doorstep. Thanks and happy bidding.
