About the Set-This is a very rare numbered set produced by Gift Creations, Inc. in California. This company was licensed by both the UCOC and the 1980 Moscow Olympic Committee to produce pins and sets in the US. They made some great pins for the 1984 Los Angeles Games and later produced a famous large framed NOC set for the IOC. The centerpiece says, "Misha, the mascot of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow was destined to become an international superstar. However, overnight Misha was catapulted into a far more prominent spottlight!!! The Russian invasion of Afghanistan created such international turmoil that many nations, included the United States of America, boycotted the Olympics in Moscow as a form of protest against Russian aggression. This international incident created such a tremendous amont of publicity that today Misha is still fresh in the minds of all Olympic enthusiasts. His universal appeal has created a worldwide demand for "Misha" souvenirs. Based on the limited number of collector sets available this is an extremely valuable collector's item that will increase in value in the years to come." The serial Number etched on the centerpiece is 2679. I do not know the production limit. However I haven't seen this set again since I bought it many years ago. There are 2 different color Games Mark pins and 12 different Misha pins: Olympic Torch, Shot Put, Discus, with Games Mark shirt, Gymnastics-Rings, Gymnastics-Beam, Swimming, Athletics-Relays, Athletics-Javelin,Vollyball, Football (Soccer), and Boxing. All are in excellent condition. 1980 Moscow-A U.S.-led boycott reduced the number of participating nations to 80, the lowest number since 1956. Aleksandr Dityatin earned medals in every men's gymnastics event to become the only athlete ever to win eight medals in one Olympics. Super-heavyweight Teófilo Stevenson became the first boxer to win the same division three times. Gerd Wessig became the first male high jumper to break the world record at the Olympics and swimmer Vladimir Salnikov broke the 15-minute barrier for the 1,500m. In adramatic confrontation, runners Steve Ovett and Sebastian Coe split the 800 and 1,500m. 1980 Mascot-The Moscow Olympic bear "Misha" or "Mishka" was developed by the renowned illustrator of children's books Victor Chizikov. Shipping Notes: Insurance and delivery confirmation to CONUS address is included. International Orders: I keep all shipping receipts and Customs Forms to prove the items were shipped. Please understand that it can take weeks to receive a package in another country. This set will be mailed by Registered 1st Class International Mail only. Please pardon my poor photo. It was taken manyn years ago and scanned from the hard copy. All my pins are much more detailed and colorful than my washed out or dark scans. The glare from the glass was unavoidable. Please see my other Olympic items on eBay and save by combining shipping. Happy collecting!
