The photographer was JAMES CLOUTIER who also did the original artwork for the OFFICIAL PROGRAM FOR THE 1972 TRIALS. James Cloutier is a Eugene, Oregon sports artist and photographer who also played baseball for the Oregon Ducks back in the 1960s. This beautiful close-up of Pre mid-race came as he was winning the 5,000 and setting a new American record. It is a gorgeous image of course. Cloutier was photographing the '72 Trials from the infield at Hayward. THIS IS A GREAT PHOTO FOR THE PRE COLLECTOR! Cloutier uses his photos for inspiration in his drawing.
